It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s a fresh new take on Superman!
DC Comics celebrates the National Coming Out Day by confirming that its new Superman is bisexual in its upcoming issue “Superman: Son of Kal-El.”
If you’re unfamiliar with the current continuity of DC Comics, there are currently two heroes operating as Superman, Clark Kent, and Jonathan “Jon” Kent. Clark originally debuted in comic books in 1938. Jon, Clark Kent, and Lois Lane’s 17-year-old son spent some time as Superboy before taking on the title of Superman.
The comic, written by Tom Taylor with art by John Timms, will feature Jon taking after his father and falling for an up-and-coming journalist named Jay Nakamura.

“Superman’s symbol has always stood for hope, for truth, and for justice. Today, that symbol represents something more. Today, more people can see themselves in the most powerful superhero in comics,” says writer Tom Taylor.
The new Superman is not the first comic book hero to come out as a member of the LGBTQ+ community. It is, however, a significant moment as Superman is one of the most well-known superheroes in existence.
